According to newspaper reports, 6 villagers were arrested by the forest department for killing three monitor lizards near Adpai village of Ponda taluka, goa
The lizards are close to being extinct and are protected under the schedule 1 of the wildlife protection act .
The monitor lizards were killed using dogs and other implements. The hunters were regularly visiting Adpai for killing the lizards, crossing the Zuari river using a canoe, so the forest department was tipped off.
